I was at church tonight once again and another great message that I needed to hear. Pastor Mike was back from Israel, ( I am glad he was), and he was talking about Gen. 35 once again. We have been going through this book a while now and every message he speaks on hits me hard. I think God is trying to teach me some things, LOL.
Anyhow, he was speaking on one thing that popped out through out his whole sermon. His main point was, "See eye to eye with God". Now you ask me what does that mean? I am glad you asked. He talked about several things that summed it all up, and it was very interesting.
He talked about the dreams and visions that Jacob had and how those were lined up with the ones that his father had for him. Although this is true, it took 13-16 years for it to come to past. Please keep this in mind. See Jacob was very important to his father and he got treated differently than the other brothers did. His brothers did not like this, and started to hate him literally. They had plotted to throw him into a well, but then sold him into slavery. From there he grew up and was falsely accused of raping Potifiers wife. He had been sold out by his brothers and his character and integrity was abused.
It was hard for Jacob, but he knew the dreams he had earlier in his life were lined up with what God had for him, and he did not lose sight of it. If we aline our dreams with God's dreams, he can take us places we have never been. Things may come to distract us, but we must keep our eyes on the maker of our dreams, and not on what is going on around us. The one thing Jacob made a mistake about is sharing it with his brothers, but it turned out that God used it for his good. He was resisted obviously by his brothers not beleiveing that the dreams were real, but Jacob knew who God was and what he could be in him.
These dreams just took time to materialize, and while this happened God worked within Jacob to make him what he needed him to be in the years to come. See a lot of times we as humans determine the future on the "What Ifs". What if this happens or does not. How will things turn out. Something that Pastor Mike said tonight was so profound to me. He said, "If we stop thinking about the "what ifs" then the "what is" would not be that bad". This is so true. Keith and I have been struggling with finances. We keep on asking oursleves "what if" we lose our house. What will we do.
Well the answer is we still have it dont we. Its the same way with getting bad news from the docter about someones health, which we are going through also. We think what if they die. We as humans struggle badly with the "what ifs", and Keith and I certianly have in the last year and a half, but I have come to slowly realize that instead of dewelling on that, just to cherish the moments I have, and if it happens it does. What is is what is, and time is our best medicine in dealing with any situation around us. We cant change it, but how we deal with it is the key.
We must realize that even if the situations we go through do not go our way, that God still has a plan through it all. Through Jacobs life it took time, and today its taking time with me. I have some dreams, but its just not time for it to happen yet and I know that. Right now God is buiilding me up to be who he wants me to be so I can handle things that come my way when the dreams become a reality. I also know that in some situations it does not happen the way we want them to. The circumstances can be long and very hard and with it will come sacrafice, but if we hold on and fight the good fight, blessings will come out of it in time. In these circumstances Gods visions never change for our lifes, they just get stronger.
Providence will always fullfill its promise within us. God is always true to us, just as long as we stay true to him even in situations when we really dont understand.
God Bless... Kelly
